Mary Anderson, Windshield Wipers, and Life's "Wintry Precipitation"

Are you up for a life-changing story? If your answer is yes, get that cup of coffee, sit down and rewind back to 1902.

Her name was Mary Anderson.

During winter of that year, Ms. Anderson, a Birmingham, Alabama native, made her way to New York.

While in the Big Apple, she rode a streetcar and invested her confidence in the driver’s ability to maneuver through sleet and snow showers.

Now, here’s where the story gets interesting.

As you can imagine, the streetcars of that day struggled when it came to a wintry mix.

A two-paneled windshield made it impossible for the driver to navigate safely through the freezing precipitation.

So, to be able to see, the driver had to stop the streetcar and then open both panes a little to peer through a narrow gap.

Well, as Mary Anderson witnessed the scene, her ingenuity blasted off.

She knew that there had to be a better way!

She imagined a squeegee wiper on the outside of the windshield, linked to a lever on the inside. Though primitive and crude, her model became the forerunner of windshield wipers on today’s vehicles.

So, the next time you use your windshield wipers, think of Mary Anderson, the lady who helps us all to see clearly through precipitation.

But my article extends much deeper than the historical roots of today’s windshield wipers.

It deals with the precipitation, the wintry mixes, the blizzards of our life, and it involves YOU.

It's not a question whether or not you'll face "wintry mixes." Everyone has and everyone will have "precipitation" that'll pelt your "windshield."

It may be in the form of health decline, relationship troubles, financial woes, job related stress, anxiety, fear, a lack of confidence, or other emotional blizzards.

It's just a matter of "when." But it's up to you how you'll respond when it happens.

Follow the lead of your windshield wipers, pushing all distractions to the side, and then move forward, pursuing your goals.

NOW…More Encouragement For You!
